Welcome to the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Montana State University. The Department is committed to educating undergraduate students in the culture, history, and language of Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish. Students will learn about the culture of Spain, Latin America, the Caribbean, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, Japan, Africa, France, China and more.
We believe that the study of foreign cultures, languages, and literature is an integral part of a basic education and an essential component of one's university training. It provides students with the knowledge to better understand their own language and culture and to function intelligently as members of a global society. The Department believes that students will be better prepared to face the challenges of globalization with the acquisition of a foreign language. It gives students the cultural and linguistic competency necessary in most future careers.
